Air Canada successfully commenced its eagerly awaited direct flight from Vancouver (YVR) to Singapore last night, marking the first operation of the airline’s latest international connection and the sole non-stop service linking Canada and Singapore. At 12,818 kilometers (7,965 miles), this route stands as Air Canada’s longest, with a flight duration of up to 16 hours and five minutes.
Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning, expressed excitement about introducing this new service from Vancouver to Singapore. He highlighted that the addition of the Singapore route is a key part of Air Canada’s strategic growth at YVR, enhancing the airport’s status as a leading North American gateway to Asia. Galardo also noted Singapore’s role as a crucial hub for further travel to Southeast Asia, Southern India, and Western Australia, facilitated by the airline’s codeshare agreement with Singapore Airlines, a Star Alliance partner.
The Honourable Jagrup Brar, British Columbia’s Minister of State for Trade, emphasized the significant potential of directly linking Singapore, a major economic and financial center in Southeast Asia, with British Columbia, Canada’s Pacific gateway. He pointed out the new direct service will foster travel, business cooperation, and access to international markets, benefiting individuals in Singapore, Southeast Asia, and British Columbia.
Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO of YVR, welcomed the exclusive non-stop flight between Canada and Singapore, noting its potential to generate $18 million in economic output and support various jobs. She lauded Air Canada’s commitment to Vancouver, which promotes tourism, enhances trade, and connects communities across the Pacific, positively impacting the local and regional economy.
Rachel Loh, Senior Vice President at the Singapore Tourism Board Americas, expressed enthusiasm for the new direct link from Vancouver to Singapore, which boosts accessibility for Canadian and American tourists. She invited travelers to experience Singapore’s unique attractions, including Bird Paradise, hawker centers, and Michelin-starred restaurants, along with a diverse range of cultural, wellness, and entertainment options, like world-class concerts and the excitement of the F1 Grand Prix in September, promising an array of unforgettable experiences.
